چکیده

Bariatric surgery procedures, namely Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is increasingly used worldwide, have been shown to be the most effective strategy induce maintain weight loss as well inducing long-term remission from type 2 diabetes among people with significant obesity. The mechanism for remains unclear multi-factorial, although increased secretion of endogenous glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) hormones improve postprandial β-cell function widely considered main following RYGB. However, recent studies that rate between two types bariatric procedures are similar but yet, above beyond per se SG less clear. Beyond GLP-1, role other major incretin hormone, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), relatively unexplored after surgery. A study published in Diabetes Care therefore studied effects separate combined GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) GIP (GIPR) blockade during mixed-meal tests un-operated (CON), SG-operated, RYGB-operated no history diabetes. investigator found that, expected, concentrations were highest RYGB also higher compared CON. In contrast, lowest Interestingly, blockage GLP-1R reduced glucose sensitivity responses both surgical groups had effect Blockage GIPR however CON group. This showed while important mediator improved beta cell RYGB, equally SG. combine benefits interesting, given emergence dual agonist treatment It would interesting explore relative Glucagon on procedures.

Combined sleeve gastrectomy and mini-gastric bypass in a new bariatric procedure of mini-gastric bypass and proximal sleeve gastrectomy.

Surgery is the most effective method for the treatment of morbid obesity. Beneficial effects of bariatric surgery are due to both changed anatomy and consequential alterations in hormonal and metabolic status. Based on the experience with former standard bariatric procedures, the idea came out of a new combined bariatric procedure that could provide better control of glucose level and weight lo...

Comparative Effects of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy on Glucose Homeostasis and Incretin Hormones in Obese Type 2 Diabetic Patients: A One-Year Prospective Study.

The aim of the work was to compare the hormonal and the metabolic mechanisms involved in weight loss and remission of T2DM one year after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) in morbidly obese type 2 diabetic (T2DM) patients. Insulin sensitivity, insulin secretion, and the gastrointestinal (GI) hormone response to a mixed meal test (MMT) were evaluated before an...

GLP-1 as a mediator in the remission of type 2 diabetes after gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy surgery.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) have been shown to cause remarkable improvement in type 2 diabetes, often with complete remission within days after surgery and before any significant weight loss (1). The mechanisms explaining the benefit on glycemic control independent of weight loss are still not entirely clear, but enhanced postprandial insulin secretion induced by...

Evaluation of Global Longitudinal Strain Pattern (GLS) and Echocardiographic Parameters in the Sleeve Gastrectomy Patients Before and After Surgery

Background and Objective: Obesity is one of the problems associated with cardiovascular complications. Patients' heart function improves after sleeve gastrectomy. Global Longitudinal Strain (GLS) is one of the methods used to monitor heart function before and after sleeve gastrectomy.  In this study, we evaluated the echocardiographic parameters pre and post sleeve gastrectomy. Materials and M...
